Ken Snyder - Team Owner and Driver

Ken began his involvement in racing with some visits to Dave and Karen Smith's Precisioned Speed in Anaheim, California in the early 80's during his tour of duty in the United States Marine Corps.  But it wasn't until 1990 that he really kicked his racing bug into "high gear" when he helped out Mike Scrutchfield at Lakeside and I-70 Speedways with Mike's Super Stock circle-track car.  Ken bought his first race car, named "Elfie" after his maternal grandmother, from Hank Thompson in 1991 and raced at Lakeside and I-70 Speedways starting in 1992.  Late in 1993 he began to build another race car, now known as "Grace" and raced that car in 1994.  1995 saw him take a different turn with his involvement in racing as he became involved with the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA).  This culminated with Ken running SCCA's Kansas City Region Solo II events starting in 1997, starting in a "G" Stock class Oldsmobile Starfire GT and making the move to his wife Chelsea's RX-7 "C" Street Prepared in 1998.  Ken won the Kansas City Region's season championships in "C" Street Prepared in 1998, and has consistently finished in the top 5 since he began running Solo II events.

Ken also works around racing as well -- he operates A/Q Wiring Service, designing and installing electrical systems on race cars; he is a corner worker with SCCA at Club Racing events and was a crew member on Gene Millard's Late Model Stock Car at I-70 Speedway in Odessa, Missouri.  From 2001 to 2013 Ken also worked at the Kansas Speedway as a member of the track clean-up crew at their NASCAR, IRL and ARCA events.  From 2004 to 2013 Ken was also a member of the fire crew at Lakeside Speedway -- he's been known to say "If I can't afford to race, the least I can do is help out those who can.  Besides, it's usually one of the better views at the track!"

His future plans are to complete the rebuilding of "Grace" for SCCA RallyCross® competition, restore "Elfie" to her 1992 Chargers Division configuration, and to build a dedicated SCCA Solo II Classic American Muscle - T car, among others.

Ken has worked as an aircraft (avionics) mechanic, the trade he learned during his time in the Marine Corps.  From 2003 to 2019 Ken was also a member of the Kansas Air National Guard's 190th Air Refueling Wing, stationed at Forbes Field in Topeka, Kansas. He is a lifelong resident of Kansas City, Kansas and has a son, Kenny Wayne Snyder.  Ken and Kenny enjoy music, building scale model cars, aircraft, and trains as well as license plate collecting -- they have several early Kansas plates in their collection as well as many other states.

"Rocket", our Golden Retriever - Team Mascot (1998 - 2012)

What can we say -- he was our dog..............

Rocket never met a human he didn't like, and when he traveled with the team he was always getting more than his share of attention.  You just had to be careful of that "street sweeper/wrecking ball" tail!  Here's a shot of Ken, Chelsea and Rocket from 1998's SCCA Solo II Nationals.

He is greatly missed.
