Team Members and Biographies

Ken Snyder - Team Owner and Driver

Ken began his involvement in racing with some visits to Dave and Karen Smith's Precisioned Speed in Anaheim, California in the early 80's during his tour of duty in the United States Marine Corps.  But it wasn't until 1990 that he really kicked his racing bug into "high gear" when he helped out Mike Scrutchfield at Lakeside and I-70 Speedways with Mike's Super Stock circle-track car.  Ken bought his first race car, named "Elfie" after his maternal grandmother, from Hank Thompson in 1991 and raced at Lakeside and I-70 Speedways starting in 1992.  Late in 1993 he began to build another race car, now known as "Grace" and raced that car in 1994.  1995 saw him take a different turn with his involvement in racing as he became involved with the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA).  This culminated with Ken running SCCA's Kansas City Region Solo II events starting in 1997, starting in a "G" Stock class Oldsmobile Starfire GT and making the move to his wife Chelsea's RX-7 "C" Street Prepared in 1998.  Ken won the Kansas City Region's season championships in "C" Street Prepared in 1998, and has consistently finished in the top 5 since he began running Solo II events.

Ken also works around racing as well -- he operates A/Q Wiring Service, designing and installing electrical systems on race cars; he is a corner worker with SCCA at Club Racing events and has been spotted as a crew member on Gene Millard's Late Model Stock Car at I-70 Speedway in Odessa, Missouri.  Starting in 2001 Ken also began working at the Kansas Speedway as a member of the track clean-up crew at their NASCAR, IRL and ARCA events.  Since 2004 Ken has been also a member of the fire crew at Lakeside Speedway -- he's been known to say "If I can't afford to race, the least I can do is help out those who can.  Besides, it's usually one of the better views at the track!"

His future plans are to complete the rebuilding of "Grace" to SCCA Club Racing standards, rebuild "Elfie" to compete at Lakeside Speedway as a Grand National dirt-track racer, and to build a dedicated SCCA Solo II Street Prepared or Street Modified car, among others.

Ken works as an aircraft mechanic, the trade he learned during his time in the Marine Corps.  In 2003 Ken also became a member of the Kansas Air National Guard's 190th Air Refueling Wing, stationed at Forbes Field in Topeka, Kansas. He is a lifelong resident of Kansas City, Kansas and has a son, Kenny Wayne Snyder.  Ken and Kenny enjoy music, building scale model cars, aircraft, and trains as well as license plate collecting -- they have several early Kansas plates in their collection as well as many other states.

Chelsea has had a keen interest in auto racing for years, but she never knew just how involved she would be in racing until she accompanied Ken to a Kansas City Region SCCA meeting!  One of the first places they stopped after getting married in 1996 was an autocross event, and they've been going to them ever since.  Chelsea began her autocrossing career in 1998, winning the "C" Street Prepared Ladies class, Kansas City Region SCCA Solo II newcomer award and the Kansas City Region SCCA's Outstanding New Member award.  She also joined the ranks of SCCA race workers in Sound Control at Heartland Park Topeka in 1998.  In 1999, Chelsea was voted one of the "Top 10" members in the Kansas City Region for her efforts in both the autocross and road racing communities.  The year 2000 saw Chelsea win her third Kansas City Region CSPL championship.

Chelsea's area of responsibility with the team is to 1) make sure scheduling is coordinated with the various racing events, any potential advertisers and non-racing activities or appearances, 2) keep fans and advertisers up-to-date on happenings with the team, and 3) recordkeeping of the changes done to the cars at events, lap times, and finishes.

Originally from Paola, Kansas, Chelsea moved to Kansas City when she and Ken were married in 1996.  She works in data processing with a local pharmaceutical company.  Her favorite hobbies are reading, gardening, bird watching and collecting miniature race cars -- she has an extensive collection of Dale Earnhardt memorabilia.

"Rocket", our Golden Retriever - Team Mascot

What can we say -- he's a dog..............

Rocket has never met a human he didn't like, and when he travels with the team is always getting more than his share of attention.  Just be careful of that "street sweeper/wrecking ball" tail!  Here's a shot of Ken, Chelsea and Rocket from 1998's SCCA Solo II Nationals

Note: We are looking for someone who would like to help us in the marketing of the team to potential sponsor/advertisers. We will provide the materials, you provide the enthusiasm, and we'll all go racing!  Contact us for more info.
